Dwight Armstrong
W.
Dwight Armstrong was born near Princeton, Kentucky on September 30, 1950. He
received the B.S. degree from Murray State University in 1971 and M.S. and
Ph.D. degrees from Purdue University in 1973 and 1975, respectively. As a
member of the North Carolina State University faculty (1975–1982) he taught
nutrition and swine management and was a recipient of the Outstanding Teacher
Award (1979). His research emphasized digestive enzyme development in the
early-weaned pig. He joined Akey, Inc., Lewisburg, OH as Director of Nutrition
in 1982, became Vice-President and General Manager in 1986, and advanced to
President and Chief Operating Officer in 1993. He is responsible for all
activities of the company.
Dr.
Armstrong has been active in the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) and
the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS). He served ASAS as a member of
the editorial board and as a Director at Large from 1996 to 1998. He has been a
member of AFIA’s Nutrition Council, International Committee, Board of
Directors, and Executive Committee and was recently named Chairman-Elect. He
also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Animal Industry Foundation. Honors
he has received include Purdue University’s prestigious Distinguished
Agricultural Alumnus Award in 1995.
Dr.
Armstrong has been active in civic organizations and his church. He has served
on the Board of Trustees, the Finance Committee, and the Administrative Board
of the latter. He currently serves on the boards of three local businesses. His
wife, Judy, and their two sons, Todd and Adam, have provided outstanding
support.
