Anderson Receives 2001 Animal Growth and Development Award

David B. Anderson, Eli Lily, was recognized for his research in any phase of growth or development of animals during the American Society of Animal Science Awards Ceremony in Indianapolis on Friday, July 27.  This award is sponsored Roche Vitamins Inc.

With a B.S. from South Dakota State University and advanced degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Anderson served as Chief of Biochemistry for the U.S. Army, was an assistant professor of Animal Science at the University of Illinois and currently serves as a researcher for Eli Lilly & Co.

Over the past 22 years, Anderson’s research has focused on antibiotic growth promoters and ractopamine, a feed ingredient that directs nutrients to increase the amount of quality high-value cuts and improves productivity.  This is being marketed by Elanco as PAYLEAN®.

Anderson also serves as Adjunct Professor of Animal Science at Purdue University and is a member of the Animal Sciences Advisory Committee at the University of Illinois.  He has served on several ASAS committees and currently serves as a director-at-large.  He has been active in the American Meat Science Association, serving as director, president, and RMC chairman.

Anderson has been an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Animal Science, Canadian Journal of Animal Science, and Journal of Muscle Foods.  He received the AMSA Signal Service Award in 1997.  Throughout the years, Anderson has received 12 patents and authored or co-authored 38 journal papers, 55 abstracts and 13 technical papers and book chapters.
