Ellis Honored by American Society of Animal Science
Dr. Michael Ellis received the 2001 Animal Management Award during the American Society of Animal Science Annual Awards Banquet in Indianapolis on July 27. The Animal Management Award, sponsored by Merial, recognizes excellence in biological or production management and to recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to production management.
Ellis, a professor at the University of Illinois, has made major contributions to swine production in genetics, nutrition, management, and meat quality. His research has included characterization of single-gene effects and of nutritional and pre-slaughter factors on pork quality and also genetic and environmental impacts on feed intake, feeding behavior, and swine growth. Production and management strategies designed to improve animal performance and product quality are results of Ellis’ research.
Ellis earned his degrees from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, where he worked as a lecturer in animal production for several years.
He has authored one book, 90 articles for peer-reviewed journals, 116 abstracts, and 68 conference proceeding, and has given 54 invited lectures internationally.
