Field Receives 2001 Distinguished Teacher Award
Dr. Thomas G. Field was honored with the 2001 Distinguished Teacher Award at the American Society of Animal Science Award banquet in Indianapolis on Friday, July 27. This award recognizes distinguished undergraduate teachers that have made an impression on students by the mastery of subject, techniques, vision and attitudes.
Field, holds his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Animal Sciences from Colorado State University where he is an associate professor and teaching coordinator in the Department of Animal Science.
Throughout his teaching career, Field has taught twelve different undergraduate courses and two graduate courses. He initiated an international travel course in which 120 students have participated during the past 7 years, led two domestic travel courses, and has assisted numerous students in securing quality internships. His students have consistently commended his enthusiasm, commitment to the quality of their education, and general concern for their academic, professional, and personal growth.
He has advised numerous student organizations and advises more than 60 students annually. Dr. Field is also the director of the Beef Industry Leadership graduate program and has served as advisor or co-advisor to 22 master’s degree students. His devotion to animal agriculture, teaching, and rural people has made him a sought-after speaker both in the United States and abroad. He has been recognized with the Shepardson Teaching Award, the Cermak Advising Award, the Alumni Association Best Teacher Award, the Outstanding Graduate of the Last Decade Award, and regional excellence in teaching awards from the Western Section of ASAS, NACTA, and USDA.
