Dr. William Garrett was awarded the 2001 Fellow Award during the Annual American Society of Animal Science award ceremony on July 27. The Fellow Award, sponsored by the American Society of Animal Science, recognizes ASAS members for their distinguished service to the animal industry for 25 years or more. Each nominee must have made exceptional contributions to the animal industry, to an animal related discipline, or to ASAS; must have had continuous professional membership in ASAS for a minimum of 25 years; and must be in good standing with the Society.
Garrett, professor emeritus from University of California-Davis, contributed to the animal energetics industry through his research with the establishment of a scientifically and commercially acceptable net energy system for growing ruminants and the associated net energy values for feedstuffs. Garrett’s work stimulated renewed efforts in studies of whole-animal energetics and body composition.
During his professional career, Garrett has received numerous awards, including; ASAS American Feed Manufacturer’s Association Nutrition Research Award, ASAS Morrison Award, and the Western Section ASAS Distinguished Service Award.
