Corey Gilbert received the 2001 Agribrands International-Promote Scholarship during the American Society of Animal Science Annual Awards Banquet in Indianapolis on July 27.
Gilbert, a cum laude graduate of Texas A&M University, is currently pursing a Ph.D. in Animal Science from the same institution after taking a few years off to serve as a missionary in Thailand. His graduate research focuses on increasing lipogenic enzyme activities in marbling; with the ultimate goal of improving carcasses for the international beef export market. Upon completion of his degree, Gilbert plans to teach at a Thai University.
In 1999, Gilbert presented at the 45th International Congress of Meat Science and Technology in Japan and conducted research on Japanese Black cattle with Dr. Meiji Zembayashi at Kyoto University.
Gilbert currently serves as the advisor for the Thai Student Association on campus and is a member of the American Society of Animal Science and the American Meat Science Association. He also teaches/tutors chemistry at the USDA/FSIS training center.
