Mr. Jalal received the 2001
Hubbard Feeds, Inc. Graduate Award for Poultry during the American Society of
Animal Science awards ceremony on July 27.
This award recognizes students demonstrating outstanding potential in
the research of nutritional sciences of food animals, specifically in the areas
of beef, dairy, swine and poultry production.
Jalal, born in Beirut, Lebanon, received a B.S. degree in Animal Science from the University of Jordan. After working in industry for a few years, he started his Master’s at the University of Nebraska in 1997. He graduated with an M.S. degree in December 1999 and started on his Ph.D. in January 2000.
His research focused on the effects of phytase utilization in laying hen diets on performance and nutrient availability. His current research will focus on using mathematical modeling to predict energy intake for laying hens.
Jalal hopes to return to his native country and work at the university level in research and extension. He is a founding member of his high school alumni association, and is an active member in the Jordan Environment Society and Royal Society for the Preservation of Nature. He is also a member of the American Society of Animal Science, Poultry Science Association, and the Animal Sciences Graduate Students Association at the University of Nebraska.
