Lindemann Receives 2001 Nonruminant Nutrition Research Award

Dr. Merlin Lindemann was honored with the 2001 Nonruminant Nutrition Research Award at the American Society of Animal Science awards ceremony in Indianapolis on Friday, July 27.

Lindemann led the swine research program during his 13 years at Virginal Polytechnic Institute and the State University Tidewater Station, before joining the Animal Science faculty at the University of Kentucky, where he is involved in swine nutrition research and teaching.

Throughout his distinguished research career, Lindemann was the first to establish the protective nature of various clays against alfatoxicosis in swine.  His research led to the reestablishment of the folic acid requirement of gestating and lactating sows.  With his work with chromium picolinate he was instrumental in establishing a dietary essentiality of chromium for swine.  While at Virginia Tech he helped to identify floor space, stocking density, feeder space allowances, and flooring materials for optimal reproduction, growth, and foot health of swine.

2001 Nonruminant Nutrition Research Award, sponsored by American Feed Industry Foundation, recognizes research excellence in the nutrition of nonruminant animals.
