Loerch Receives 2001 Ruminant Nutrition Research Award
Dr. Steven C. Loerch was honored with the 2001 Ruminant Nutrition Research Award at the American Society of Animal Science Awards banquet in Indianapolis on Friday, July 27.
Loerch joined the Animal Science Department of Ohio State University after receiving a B.S. degree from Pennsylvania State University and a M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.
Discovering strategies that have immediate impact on the efficiency and profitability of beef production has been the focus for Loerch’s research. His most significant contributions to the field of ruminant nutrition have been in three areas: nutrition and management of stressed feeder calves; programming feed intake to manipulate growth and enhance efficiency; and limit-feeding of corn-based diets to meet energy needs of ruminants in gestation and lactation.
During the past 10 years, Loerch’s research program has resulted in 42 journal articles, 22 abstracts, 27 research bulletins, and $459,000 in grants.
The Ruminant Nutrition Research Award, sponsored by the American Feed Industry Foundation, recognizes research excellence in the nutrition of ruminant animals.
