Sahlu Honored with Bouffault International Animal Agriculture Award
Tilahun Sahlu received the 2001 Bouffault International Animal Agriculture Award during the American Society of Animal Science Awards banquet in Indianapolis on Friday, July 27.
Sahlu received a B.S. from Haile Selasse I University in Ethiopia and worked as an Assistant Lecturer at the Debrezeit Agricultural Experiment Station in Ethiopia. From there, he earned his M.S. and Ph.D. from South Dakota State University, after which he held research positions at several Universities before being appointed assistant research professor at the E (Kika) de la Garza Institute for Goat Research of Langston University, where he currently serves as director.
His research encompasses areas such as nutrient requirements of dairy, meat, and fiber-producing goats, regulation and control of fiber growth, and energy expenditure by goats during grazing. Suhla has placed a strong emphasis on activities in developing areas of the world to improve livestock productivity for enhanced food security.
The Bouffault International Animal Agriculture Award recognizes distinguished service to animal agriculture in the developing areas of the world and is sponsored by the Bouffault Award Fund.
