David G. Topel

       David G. Topel received the B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin, the M.S. degree from Kansas State University, and the Ph.D. from Michigan State University.  He joined the faculty at Iowa State University in 1965 where he gained international recognition for his research in pork quality. He became head of Animal and Dairy Sciences at Auburn University in 1979 and was appointed dean of the College of Agriculture and director of the experiment station at Iowa State in 1988.  At Iowa State, he established exchanges of faculty and students in China, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Honduras, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Thailand. Dr. Topel now serves as Ensminger Chair for International Programs in Animal Science at Iowa State.
