Re: Call for Abstracts

The annual meeting of ASAS is scheduled for the Indianapolis Convention Center, July 20 - 23, 1999. Purdue University, University of Illinois, Elanco and United Feeds are all represented on the Host Advisory Committee. This group, along with our wonderful staff at ASAS and FASS have an exciting meeting planned. Indianapolis is a great city! Come and see for yourself!

There are several new additions to this year’s meeting. Your Board of Directors has approved a new component this year: Technology Forum 1999. As you can see from the enclosed information, our goal is to highlight and present some of our most readily applicable information on July 21 and 22. Our first effort will focus on beef and pork. Our plan is to open this to other species in subsequent years. We believe the new option of single-day registration will complement the Tech Forum. Please note that Tech Forum will be composed of invited papers and expanded oral and poster sessions. One highlight will be a special poster session and reception from 4 to 6 pm on July 21. Please spread the word about Tech Forum 99. Special note: please be sure to select Tech Forum when submitting your abstract. Be sure to indicate a second choice because selection into Tech Forum will be limited.

In addition to Tech Forum, we have several outstanding symposia and special calls for abstracts. Your program chairs have already worked very hard to make this an outstanding program. Please carefully note their instructions-submit your work to ASAS!

Some of the tried and true components of our meeting will be with us again. For example, the meeting will begin with the Biennial Reproduction Symposium on July 20. The Opening Session and Reception will be Tuesday evening, July 20. Come prepared with a healthy appetite!

Enclosed are the instructions for submitting an abstract for the 1999 meeting. Please note the enclosed quality standards for abstracts. Web submission has been enhanced. All abstracts must be submitted via the Internet. The abstract submission deadline is midnight (CST), Monday, February 15.

As initiated last year, we will post program sessions and abstract titles on the web. Therefore, we will NOT be mailing an author notification postcard. Only authors of rejected abstracts will be personally notified.

Please take note of the special AUDIO-VISUAL request form. The standard room setup will include screen, slide projector, LCD projector, podium, pointer and timer. Other needs must be noted via the enclosed form.

We are continuing to make changes to enhance our meeting. Our goal is to have a timely abstract submission deadline and yet post the schedule on the Web such that flight schedules or other travel arrangements can be made. If you have questions of any kind regarding the program, please do not hesitate to contact us, committee chairs or the headquarters staff.

See you in Indy!
