I am pleased to invite you to nominate colleagues and students for appropriate ASAS awards. This is an excellent way to recognize the contributions of your colleagues and students. Successful nominations often result from updating nominations from previous years. The list of ASAS awards to be presented at the 2008 ADSA ASAS Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana, July 7-11 is shown below.

2008 will the Centennial year for ASAS. What better time to recognize outstanding ASAS members. A new award is being initiated in 2008, the Retiree Service Award. Complete information can be found on the ASAS web: http://www.asas.org/awards.asp

PROCEDURES: The submission process has been developed to make the award procedure more convenient and efficient. All nominations are submitted on the ASAS web site http://www.asas.org/awards.asp (mailing copies is not required). Complete instructions can be found on the web site.

DEADLINE: All nominations must be SUBMITTED on the web site no later than February 13, 2008.

Names of all nominators will be published in the Annual Meeting Awards Program without listing nominees.

INSTRUCTIONS: The latest version of General Rules and Regulations for ASAS Awards (Amendment to Handbook for Awards) can be found on the awards web site (http://www.asas.org/awards.asp). The printed handbook is not applicable. Nominators are encouraged to review the instructions carefully and to follow the guidelines for the respective nominations to avoid rejected nominations.

Neither oral nor written communications that support a submitted nomination should be conducted between the nominator or others and the committee members of the respective award committee. Evaluations are to be based only on the submitted materials.

ELIGIBLITY: Retirees are eligible and can be nominated for awards if they met membership requirements at the time of retirement.

Graduate Student Travel Scholarships: The Dr. Joe Fontenot Appreciation Club and The Dr. H. Allen Tucker Appreciation Club have established scholarships to support graduate student travel to and participation in the annual ASAS meetings. The clubs will offer Graduate Student Travel Scholarships to the 2008 ASAS meeting in Indianapolis, IN. Graduate students presenting research papers may apply for travel support by submitting an application (http://www.asas.org/awards.asp). As with other awards, applications are due by February 13, 2008.
