Joseph P. Fontenot Student Travel Scholarship Guidelines

 

 

I.   Name of Award: Joseph P. Fontenot Student Travel Scholarship

 

II.  Nature of Award: A specified monetary award and a certificate.

 

III. Purpose: The Fontenot Appreciation Club will support travel for graduate students of the Southern Section ASAS Scientific Meeting and the National Annual ASAS Scientific Meeting.

 

IV. Eligibility:

1.      Applicant must be a current Graduate Student Member of ASAS.

2.      Applicants must submit an abstract for oral presentation at the Southern Section ASAS Scientific Meeting or ASAS annual meeting.

3.      Abstracts found unacceptable as described in the ASAS "Quality Standards for Abstracts" will not be considered.

4.      Applicant must provide one letter of recommendation from his/her thesis advisor or department head.

5.      Applications that have been submitted for other ASAS student travel scholarships for the same meeting will not be eligible for the Fontenot Graduate Student Travel Scholarship.

6.      All entries must be submitted by published abstract deadlines.

 

V.   Application Procedure: Application to be submitted electronically on the web site: http://www.asas.org/newawards/lognom.asp and must also submit the abstract for consideration as an oral presentation at the meetings by submitting the abstract via the ASAS web site (www.asas.org) by the published abstract deadline, as appropriate, for either the Southern Section ASAS Scientific Meeting or the National Annual ASAS Scientific Meeting.

 

VI.  Selection Criteria: The abstract will be judged on the following content:

Importance, originality, clarity                65%

Letter for Support                                 35%

 

VII. Evaluation Committee

1.      Southern Section Meeting:  The evaluation committee will be a panel of three Southern Section Past Presidents. A nonvoting chairperson will chair the committee.

2.      Annual ASAS Meeting:  The evaluation committee will be a panel of the immediate past presidents of geographical sections of the American Society of Animal Science. A nonvoting chairperson will chair the committee.
