GUIDELINES FOR FORMATION OF AMERICAN SOCIETY OF ANIMAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION APPRECIATION CLUBS

Members of the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) are indebted to each other. Many have been students of members of ASAS or benefitted from the work of members of ASAS. Thus, the ASAS Foundation supports the formation of Appreciation Clubs to ho nor outstanding members of ASAS. Formation of Appreciation Clubs will allow those who have benefitted from the work of a particular member of ASAS to make a gift either in perpetuity or for special activities in the name of the honored person.

1. The purpose of a club is to honor the professional accomplishments of a member of ASAS.

2. Funds contributed to a club will build an endowment dedicated to support Foundation activities that advance education, research and critical issues in animal science. Special projects mutually agreed upon between an Appreciation Club and Trustees of the Foundation could be funded. Final decisions on special projects may be reserved until it can be assured that costs do not exceed available funds.

3. A minimum of $12,500 contributed or pledged within 5 years of initial solicitation is required to charter an Appreciation Club. A minimum of $25,000 within 4 years after chartering is required to fund a club in perpetuity. Monies in clubs not fully funded will be combined with the general fund of the Foundation, and that Appreciation Club will be dissolved.

4. Individuals contributing a minimum of $500 to the initial solicitation required to charter an Appreciation Club will become charter members of that Appreciation Club. An appropriate plaque with the charter members names will be presented to the hono red ASAS member, his/her family or department as appropriate.

5. Donations and bequests by family or friends in any amount will be received at any time following formation of a club. After chartering, contributors may become club members and will be recognized.

6. Administration of Appreciation Clubs will be discussed with those forming the club by the Chair and Treasurer of the ASAS Foundation. The Executive Director of ASAS will administer Appreciation Club funds.

7. Financial administration policies of the Foundation shall apply to all assets of Appreciation Clubs.

8. Financial reports of Appreciation Clubs will be made annually to ASAS members and to the persons honored by the Clubs.
