Tributes and Memorial Fund Guidelines

American Society of Animal Science Foundation

 

 

 

Purpose:  To provide a mechanism for animal scientists, friends, family and business associates to give recognition to someone living or deceased who had a significant influence on their career or who made a significant contribution to animal science or the livestock industry.

 

Recognition Mechanism:  Individuals recognized by contributions to the Tributes and Memorial Fund will be listed in ASAS Newsletter, on the ASAS Foundation Website and in the Journal of Animal Science.

 

Donor Recognition:  Donors will be acknowledged in the annual list of donors to the ASAS Foundation in the ASAS Newsletter.   

 

Uses of the funds:

1.)               Donors that contribute $50 to $999 to the fund will have the following choices:

a.)                           Donation assigned to one of the existing appreciation clubs.

b.)                           Donation used by ASAS Foundation for general activities of the Foundation.

2.)               Donors of $1,000 or more will be given an opportunity to request a one-time activity in the name of the honored colleague.  Examples are:

a.)                           Support toward a specific symposium or a specific topic at either the national or a sectional meeting.

b.)                           A travel scholarship for a graduate student to a national or sectional ASAS meeting in the name of the honoree.

c.)                            Contribution toward an internship in the FASS Washington D.C. office.

d.)                           ASAS activities suggested by the donor other than those listed above.

e.)                           Donation assigned to one of the existing appreciation clubs.

 

These activities cannot be guaranteed, but the ASAS Board of Directors and Staff will attempt to comply with the donor’s choice if feasible and in accord with board policies. The ASAS Board retains the right to appoint a committee to assist in the selection of the recipient for a travel scholarship, internship or other approved activities.  The recipient may not be a relative of the donor.

 

The ASAS staff will develop an appropriate mailing form which will be provided to its members and will post it on the Foundation website.
