Membership in ASAS

Membership Eligibility
Membership is open to individuals, organizations, or firms interested in research and application, instruction, or extension in animal science or associated with the production, processing, marketing, or distribution of livestock and livestock products.

Types of Membership:
   Professional
   Postdoctoral Fellow
   Student Affiliate
   Sustaining Membership
   Institutional Subscriptions

Professional Membership: Available to any person who has research, educational, commercial or administrative responsibilities or interests in the broad disciplines within animal science. Professional member dues include access to the electronic Journal of Animal Science and all other benefits of membership. Professional members may also subscribe to receive the paper copy of the Journal at an additional cost.

Professional Membership includes the following benefits: Some of the personal benefits afforded active members of the American Society of Animal Science include the following:

  • A convenient means of keeping up to date on current scientific and production developments.
  • An avenue for personal involvement in fostering high standards and professional developments in Animal Science.
  • Full access on this Web site (www.asas.org) and the option to receive a printed copy of each monthly Journal of Animal Science.
  • Receiving the Society's newsletter, Membership Directory, and advance registration information for national and sectional meetings.
  • Reduced fees to present abstracts at national and sectional meetings and to submit manuscripts for publication in the Journal of Animal Science.
  • Eligibility to provide personal leadership to the field of Animal Science by serving on the Board of Directors or society committees or by accepting other society assignments.
  • Eligibility to be selected for prestigious society-sponsored awards.
  • Reduced registration rates for the annual meetings.

Postdoctoral Fellow: Available to postdoctoral students. Certification of eligibility is required. Membership includes electronic Journal access.

Student Affiliate Membership: Available to any regularly enrolled college student, either undergraduate or graduate, who is certified by a Professional Member/Advisor and does not hold a full-time job. Membership must be certified annually. Student Affiliate Members are non-voting members. Dues include access to the electronic Journal of Animal Science. Student Affiliates and Postdoctoral Fellows may subscribe to receive the paper copy of the Journal at an additional cost.

Sustaining Membership

Since the Sustaining Membership program began more than ten years ago, the individual and corporate leaders who uphold the program have been influential in making a better Journal of Animal Science as well as in improving the ability of ASAS to provide greater membership services through the use of new technologies. As a Sustaining Member, you will have the satisfaction of knowing your contribution will add to the overall quality of the Society and will supply additional funding to the annual meeting, special symposia and the Journal of Animal Science.

ASAS is a technological leader in on-line journal publishing and we continue to look for new ways to improve in this area. It is the generous support of companies and individuals that has allowed us to effectively respond to the needs of animal agriculture. Your continued support aids these and other ongoing ASAS services and programs and provides the funds necessary to keep ASAS current with technological changes.

Corporate Sustaining Membership is available at the $1000 level.

The Corporate Sustaining Membership includes:

  • $500 of the $1000 supports the ASAS Foundation and is fully tax deductible as a charitable gift
  • a complimentary professional membership for the Sustaining Member representative with both on-line access and paper copy of the Journal
  • one complimentary registration to the annual meeting
  • discounts on exhibiting at the annual meeting
  • complimentary job and internship listing on the online Job Resource Center
  • recognition on the ASAS Web Site
  • recognition on the back cover of each monthly issue of the Journal
  • recognition at the annual meeting
  • recognition in all Foundation publications

Corporate Membership Application

Individual Sustaining Membership($350) is offered to any individual dedicated to ASAS and the animal agriculture industry. The Individual Sustaining Membership supports ongoing ASAS services and programs and provides the funds necessary to keep ASAS current with technological changes. In addition, a portion of the contributions made through the Sustaining Membership program are also tax deductible. For the Individual Sustaining Membership, $240 of the $350 is tax deductible. As an Individual Sustaining Member you will enjoy the following advantages of this upgraded status:

  • a professional membership with on-line Journal access
  • recognition on the ASAS Web Site
  • recognition on the back cover of each issue of the Journal
  • satisfaction of knowing your contribution will add to the overall quality of the Society and will supply additional funding to the annual meeting, special symposia and the Journal of Animal Science.

Institutional Subscriptions to the Journal of Animal Science

Libraries and other institutions may subscribe to the Journal of Animal Science. Subscription will include both hard copy and electronic access to the Journal. Institutional subscriptions do not include personal membership with ASAS. If your institution is interested in subscribing to the Journal, please contact asas@assochq.org for more information.

Sectional Affiliation

In addition to membership in the international organization, members who reside in North America, Central America or South America automatically become members of one of the four geographic sections: Midwestern, Northeastern, Southern or Western. A portion of the annual dues is automatically prorated to the section in which the member resides. A member has the option of adding or changing section affiliation. Each section holds a meeting annually.

Journal of Animal Science

The Society publishes the monthly Journal of Animal Science, a refereed forum for scientific research findings. The Journal is among the most frequently cited periodicals in its topic area. The Journal is available in electronic format to all ASAS members with individual memberships and is also available as a print subscription. National and Sectional Meetings and Symposia

ASAS holds a yearly national meeting and four sectional meetings. These meetings consist of presentations of scientific information, special symposia and invited speakers. In addition, the national meeting offers commercial exhibits.

Leadership on the Issues

Through the office of the FASS Executive Vice President-Scientific Liaison in Washington, D.C., the Society addresses national issues and problems affecting animal agriculture. (http://www.fass.org)
