  • The International Pig Veterinary Society (IPVS) holds its Congress every 2 years, and it is regarded as the main event in this field. The 20th International Pig Veterinary Society Congress (IPVS 2008) will take place in Durban, South Africa, on June 22–25, 2008. The Congress is an important forum for the presentation and discussion of new developments in pig veterinary, its associated disciplines and sciences. An exhibition will accompany the meeting, enabling delegates to review the ever-developing scientific innovations associated with these fields. The objectives are to bring together all those concerned with the development in the field of pig veterinary and science: pig health and productivity; feeding, management, and housing; reproduction and breeding; food safety, zoonoses and antimicrobial resistance; economy; animal welfare; and environment.   • Welfare & Epidemiology Conference, July 14–16, 2008, Ames, Iowa. Industry representatives, veterinarians, government personnel, academics and students interested in conducting and applying epidemiological and animal welfare research tools to the field should attend this conference.   • The 4th International Workshop on the Assessment of Animal Welfare at Farm and Group Level (WAFL-2008), September 10–13, 2008, in Ghent, Belgium.
