Student Abstract Competitions

Call for Abstracts: Abstracts must be submitted on or before October 16, 2002. Those submitted after October 9 will not be accepted. The quality standards for abstracts can also be found on this Web site. A 2" x 2" slide projector will be provided in each room. Authors requiring other presentation equipment, such as LCD projectors, must make arrangements with the Program Chair before the meeting.

 

Graduate Student Abstract Competition: The Awards Competition Committee will select up to fifteen (15) abstracts, based on scientific merit, for presentation. Dr. C. Scott Whisnant, North Carolina State University will send rules and guidelines on awards competition to each selected participant. Please note that a manuscript is not required for participation in the awards competition. The contestant must be the senior author, be 35 years of age, or less, at the time of submission, and cannot hold academic rank above assistant professor. Persons who have placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in previous Awards Competitions are ineligible. Awards of $150, $100, and $50 will be presented to the top three placings, respectively. The criteria for evaluating the competition papers will be: clearness and correctness of the abstract; knowledge of the subject area; research quality and innovation; organization of presentation; presentation and personal attributes; and appropriate use, clarity, and number of visuals.

 

Undergraduate Research Abstract Competition: Junior or senior level students from institutions in the Southern Region with degree programs in Agriculture are encouraged to present data from their research efforts. Abstracts for the research paper competition should be submitted according to the directions described in "Call for Papers". University verification that the student is enrolled, at the time of abstract submission, must be mailed to Dr. Charles F. Rosenkrans, Jr., University of Arkansas, Department of Animal Science, Fayetteville, AR 72701, Phone: (501) 575-4376, Fax: (501) 575-7294, crosenkr@comp.uark.edu.  Note that the author may be a graduate student at the time the paper is presented. The abstracts will be reviewed by the Teaching and Undergraduate Education ADSA/ASAS Joint Committee (Dr. Charles F. Rosenkrans, Jr., Chair). Please note that a manuscript is not required for participation in the Undergraduate Research Paper Awards Competition.
