Outstanding Young Animal Scientist Award - Education

The Southern Section of the American Society of Animal Science offers a Young Animal Scientist Award in Education.  The award is presented at the Annual Meeting of the Southern Section of the American Society of Animal Science.  The award consists of a plaque, $500 and recognition at the Annual Meeting of the Southern Section of the American Society of Animal Science.

The requirements for eligibility for this award are as follows:

I.       The recipient of the Young Animal Scientist Award must be a member of the American Society of Animal Science, and the recipient must have conducted the work upon which the nomination is based in a state or territory in the Southern Section of the American Society of Animal Science.

II.      The recipient must be less than forty (40) years of age.

III.    The nominee must not have received a national award from the American Society of Animal Science.

IV.    The nominee must have made an outstanding contribution in education in the field of Animal Science; these accomplishments may be in the public, industry, and/or private sectors.  The nominee must be actively engaged in education at the time of nomination.

V.     The nominee’s teaching and/or extension program(s) must pertain to beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses, sheep, goats and/or swine.  The individual’s program must be related to breeding, nutrition, physiology and/or management of these animals or to the products (meat, dairy products, etc.) of these animals.

VI.    Nominations must be submitted to the web site (http://www.asas.org/southern/2006) no later than October 12, 2005.

VII.   Materials to be submitted by the nominator:

1.         A summary statement giving the importance of the nominee’s work to the appropriate discipline in Animal Science and to the livestock industry, not to exceed 2670 characters and spaces.

            2.         A biography of the nominee, not to exceed 2670 characters and spaces.

3.         A list of publications, presentations and (or) educational materials developed by the nominee and, where appropriate, evidence for excellence in teaching.

4.         Letters from not less than three (3) and not more than six (6) persons representing 1) the nominee’s institution and 2) agriculture and related industries, showing the service of the nominee to animal agriculture.
