Meeting 2002
Dear Colleagues,
The 2002 Annual Meeting of the Western Section, American Society of Animal Science (WSASAS) will be held June 19-21 on the campus of Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, CO. We invite you to come to Colorado and participate in this excellent conference. Highlights of the meeting are listed below. 1.
A symposium will be held on June 19 entitled: Efficiency
of Beef Production on Western Pastures and Rangelands. The Symposium will feature
nationally recognized experts as well as Dr. Robert Herd, Senior Research Scientist,
NSW Agriculture Beef Industry Centre University of New England, Armidale, New
South Wales, Australia speaking on Residual Feed Intake: Predictive Value
and Application Challenges. Complete

Presentations in the WSASAS Graduate Student
Competition will be given on June 20.
3.
Presentations in the WSASAS Extension Symposium on June
20 will highlight innovative extension programs throughout the West. Complete symposium details are on the web (http://www.asas.org/western02/).
4.
A graduate student forum at noon on June 20 will focus
on career development. Representatives
of the animal industries, state agencies, biotechnology firms and educational
institutions will participate on a panel to present and discuss the wide
variety of career opportunities in Animal Science.
5.
New to the
Western Section meeting will be a Congressional Insight
Workshop. Participants are actively involved in an interactive computer
model designed to simulate a two-year term of office in congress. For a complete description see the web (http://www.asas.org/western02/). Watch

6.
A welcome reception will be held on the CSU campus on
June 19. On June 20, a barbecue/award
ceremony will take place at the Colorado State University Agricultural
Research, Development and Education Center headquarters, north of Ft.
Collins. These events will be an
enjoyable opportunity to renew old friendships and make new ones.
7.
As part of the BBQ on the 20th, a tour of
the new Animal Science farm will be given.
An afternoon tour of the CSU Equine Facilities on June 21 will be
offered for those interested.
8.
As always, there will be high quality oral and poster
presentations in the disciplines of animal science. Over 166 abstracts have been submitted, making this one of the
largest meetings in the recent past.

Registration is also available using the forms in this
packet. MAKE YOUR ROOM AND TRAVEL RESERVATIONS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. June is the beginning of the tourist season in
Colorado and therefore, accommodations will fill up. Excellent rates are offered on a space available basis in campus
housing (similar to the campus accommodations for the 2001 WSASAS meeting at
Bozeman). Blocks of rooms at several

Rather than
offering spouse and children's tours during the 2002 WSASAS meeting, CSU Conference
Services personnel will help you design your own personal tour or provide
suggestions for activities for you, your family, and/or your children. Contact Ms. Pat Altenburg at the CSU

members that have passed away are remembered each year at the annual meeting.

2001-2002. Please contact the committee
chairs or any member of the executive committee if you have an issue or concern
