James M. Thompson

 

James M. Thompson is currently an extension specialist at Oregon State University. He attended the University of Wisconsin–River Falls and received a B.S. in animal science. He then served 3 years in the U.S. Army. He attended the University of Missouri and received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees there. He joined the animal and range sciences faculty at South Dakota State University as extension sheep specialist, where he worked for 9 years. In 1989, he joined the faculty in animal sciences at Oregon State University. In addition to his extension responsibilities, Jim is involved in undergraduate teaching and research in the animal sciences department. Jim has served as a member and chair of the Advisory and Coordinating Committee of the Western Section of ASAS. He is the current secretary-treasurer of the Western Section.

Tim Ross

 

Tim Ross joined the faculty of the Department of Animal and Range Sciences at New Mexico State University in 1982. He maintains an active teaching and research program and is the assistant department head. He teaches the introductory animal science course, sheep and wool production, environmental physiology, and research methods. His research involves investigating reproductive wastage in sheep and toxic plants. He has trained over 30 graduate students and published numerous journal articles and Western Section Proceeding papers. Tim has served on the editorial board for the Sheep and Goat Research Journal as well as the Egyptian Journal of Nutrition and Feeds. In addition, he has served on several section committees and most recently was chair of the Advisory and Coordinating Committee.

Dennis Hallford

 

Dennis Hallford is a Regents Professor at New Mexico State University. He received his undergraduate and graduate training at Tarleton State University and Oklahoma State University, respectively. He has been a faculty member in the Department of Animal and Range Sciences at NMSU since 1975, with teaching and research responsibilities in the areas of animal physiology and reproductive endocrinology. He has served on numerous departmental, college, and university committees and has received several awards during his academic career, including the Distinguished Teacher Award (1991) and the Distinguished Service Award (2002) from the Western Section of the American Society of Animal Science (WSASAS). He served as president of the WSASAS and on the National ASAS Board of Directors from 1986 through 1988. In this capacity, he has served on a number of sectional and national committees. He also served as section editor of the applied section of the Journal of Animal Science from 1999 to 2002. He is a strong supporter of ASAS and he believes firmly that regional sections should retain their identities, annual meetings, and publications.

Ken Olson

 

Ken Olson received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Montana State University in agriculture education and range science, respectively. He completed is Ph.D. in range animal nutrition at Utah State University in 1986. Upon graduation, he accepted a position at the Kansas State University Agricultural Research Center–Hays. In 1992, he accepted a position on the faculty of the Department of Animal, Dairy, and Veterinary Sciences at Utah State University, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in ruminant nutrition and beef cattle management, and conducts research in grazing livestock nutrition and management. He has served on numerous departmental, college, and university committees. He has been a member of the WSASAS Symposium Committee and currently serves on the WSASAS Advisory and Coordinating Committee. He currently represents ASAS on the editorial board for the Production Agriculture section of the Agronomy Journal, which is jointly sponsored by several agricultural scientific societies as a medium for peer-reviewed publication of applied agriculture research.
