The 2004 WSASAS meeting will be held at Oregon State University, Corvallis, from June 16 to 21 (symposium on June 16). Please note the following important dates.
March 5, 2004—Abstracts should be
prepared and submitted electronically as instructed by the enclosed material no
later than this date. Submission
instructions are posted on our Web site (http://www.asas.org/western04/).
All abstracts require a manuscript for publication in the WSASAS Proceedings;
no abstracts will be published without the submission of the proceedings
paper. Please ensure that abstracts conform to Quality Standards for
Abstracts also found on the 2004 meeting home page (http://www.asas.org/western04/).
Only LCD projectors will be used for
presenting visual aids in oral presentations.
March 5, 2004—Nominations for the WSASAS Distinguished Service,
Young Scientist, Distinguished Teacher, and Extension awards should be
submitted via the WSASAS Web site by this date. Instructions for nominations
can be found on the WSASAS 2004 meeting home page (http://www.asas.org/western04/).
Please take this opportunity to nominate individuals at your institution or
company that are doing outstanding work and deserve recognition.
April 5, 2004—Manuscripts for the WSASAS Proceedings (Vol. 55)
should be submitted to the secretary-treasurer, WSASAS, at the address above,
postmarked no later than this date. All papers must be received as photo-ready.
Also enclose a copy of the manuscript on a 3.5-inch disk in Microsoft Word 97
or later or WordPerfect 10 or earlier, as well as a PDF file. Page charges
($20.00 per page) must be submitted at the same time as the manuscript (no later
than April 5, 2004). Complete details can be found on the Invoice (http://www.asas.org/western04/).
The invoice for page charges and publication approval form can also be found on
this Web site and must be submitted with the manuscript. Checks should be made
payable to: Western Section, American Society of Animal Science, c/o Dr. James
M. Thompson, at the address above. Instructions for preparation of the
manuscript can be found on the WSASAS 2004 meeting home page (http://www.asas.org/western04/).
Manuscripts are suggested to be four pages in length. Please do not staple.
The Applied Animal
Science Award, sponsored by industry, is a regular award of the Western
Section. The awards are selected from proceedings papers submitted for
publication in the WSASAS Proceedings based on the criteria of 1)
applicability to current production systems, 2) potential for economic return
on investment, and 3) new and innovative approaches to existing production
problems. The papers will be evaluated and selected by a committee of industry
and academic animal agriculture consultants appointed and chaired by the WSASAS
Industry Representative. Persons interested in having their proceedings
papers reviewed by this committee for this award must submit by April 5, 2004,
a hard copy and electronic file of the proceedings paper (this is in addition

Materials included in this mailing, along with
instructions for nominations, WSASAS committee assignments, guidelines for oral

Please encourage your students to participate in
the Graduate Student Paper Competition held during the annual meeting and to
become members of the American Society of Animal Science.
