Applied Animal Science Awards
The first annual WSASAS Applied Animal Science Awards from industry were presented to:

1st Place D.D. Kress et al.,MT St. Univ. & N. Agric. Res. Ctr., Calf weight/cow weight ratio at weaning as a predictor of beef cow efficiency.

Sharing 1st Place R.L. Hathaway, et al., OR St. Univ., Selenium supplementation of beef cattle via fertilizer amendment.

3rd Place W. Poland & K. Ringwall, Dickinson Res. Ext. Ctr., ND St. Univ., Effect of nutritional management for either constant or stair-stepped rates of gain on subsequent breeding performance of beef heifer calves.

The Applied Animal Science Award was voted in as a regular award of the Western Section, A.S.A.S. at the executive committee meeting held in Bozeman during the WSASAS annual meeting. The awards are selected from proceedings papers submitted for publication in the WSASAS proceedings based on the criteria of 1) Applicability to current production systems 2) Potential for economic return on investment 3) New and innovative approaches to existing production systems. The papers are evaluated and selected by a committee of industry and academic animal agriculture consultants chaired by the WSASAS Industry Representative.
