| Objective: |
To recognize those members of the Western Section of the American Society of Animal Science who have made the most outstanding contributions to animal agriculture in the western region. As such, this award will be the most prestigious honor that the Western Section ASAS bestows upon its members. |
| Award: |
Consists of a specified monetary award, an appropriate plaque and a photographic portrait, which will be presented to the recipient. A second portrait of the recipient will be presented to the institution with which the awardee is affiliated. No more than one award will be presented annually. |
| Eligibility for Nomination: |
- A nominee must be a member of the Western Section of the American Society of Animal Science, but may not be an officer of the regional organization at the time of nomination.
- Nominees must possess outstanding character and ability in the teaching, research, extension, administrative or industrial phases of animal and meat sciences.
- Nominees should have contributed long and valuable service, especially to western animal agriculture.
- Nominations may be submitted by active members in good standing of the American Society of Animal Science.

- List of publications
- Summary to establish the nature and value of the nominee's contribution to the field of animal science and such other supporting information as may be deemed essential by the nominator, such as character, civic or church activities in addition to professional activities on a local, state, national or international level not to exceed 8000 characters and spaces
- One copy of a citation of approximately 500 words suitable for publication in the Journal of Animal Science

Young Scientist Award Past recipients |

| Objective: |
To recognize outstanding research achievement by young members of the Western Section of the American Society of Animal Science. |
| Award: |
A specified monetary award and an appropriate plaque |
| Eligibility for Nomination: |
- A nominee must be a member of the Western Section of the American Society of Animal Science and may not be more than 40 years of age when nominated.
- Nominees should be actively engaged in basic or applied research in any of the various areas of animal agriculture.
- Research activities of a nominee will be evaluated in terms of contributions to greater efficiency or quality of livestock production or utilization.
- Officers of the Western Section ASAS, while holding such position, are not eligible for this award.
- Nominations may be submitted by active members in good standing of the American Society of Animal Science.

- A summary statement documenting the nature, extent and importance of the nominee's contribution to animal agriculture not to exceed 8000 characters and spaces in length.
- A publication list

Distinguished Teacher Award Past recipients |

Recognition of distinguished teaching accomplishments in animal science courses by dedicated faculty at member institutions |

A specified monetary award and an appropriate plaque |
| Eligibility for Nomination: |
- Nominees should be actively involved in classroom instruction at the time of nomination. Administrators are eligible provided they personally teach courses during the school year. Retirees or those who are no longer physically able to perform teaching duties must have taught within 36 months prior to the time the award is presented.
- A nominee must be a member of the Western Section of the American Society of Animal Science but may not be an officer of the sectional organization.
- Nominees should have demonstrated abilities and interest in student motivation, mastery of subject matter, teaching improvement, extra-curricular student activities and service to agriculture.
- Nominations may be submitted by active members in good standing of the American Society of Animal Science.

- Letters of support of the nominee from current and former students as well as colleagues (minimum of 4, maximum of 8) demonstrating that the nominee has contributed exemplary service to animal agriculture and the teaching profession
- List of teaching aids, books, scholarly publications, laboratory manuals, visual aids, etc. prepared by the nominee
- One copy of a citation of approximately 500 words suitable for publication in the Journal of Animal Science

Extension Award Past recipients |

To recognize outstanding achievements in animal science extension programs at western region institutions |
| Award: |
A specific monetary award and an appropriate plaque |
| Eligibility for Nomination: |
- Nominees must have made outstanding contributions in animal science extension in areas related directly to livestock production, product utilization or other extension activities such as adult education, 4-H clubs, cooperative livestock associations, etc.
- A nominee must be a member of the Western Section of the American Society of Animal Science, must be actively engaged in extension (at least a 25% appointment) and may not be an officer of the Western Section ASAS.
- Nominations may be submitted by active members in good standing of the American Society of Animal Science.

- List of pertinent publications
- List of the nominee's projects and programs and an explanation of how these activities have influenced the livestock industry and the welfare of participating individuals not to exceed 8000 characters and spaces
- Clear demonstration in nominating and seconding letters (minimum 3, maximum 5) that the nominee has developed the expertise and leadership abilities to influence others to adopt improved practices for the enhancement of animal agriculture
- One copy of a citation of approximately 500 words suitable for publication in the Journal of Animal Science
