Agri-King Outstanding Animal Science Graduate Student Award

Nature of Award: A 2-year complimentary membership in ASAS, registration for the Joint Annual Meeting, a $1500 award, plaque, and recognition during the ASAS Awards Ceremony at the Joint Annual Meeting. A single recipient will be chosen yearly. Purpose: To recognize achievement of outstanding graduate students working toward the mission of the ASAS: "The American Society of Animal Science fosters the discovery, sharing, and application of scientific knowledge concerning the responsible use of animals to enhance human life and well-being.

Eligibility for Nomination: To be eligible the candidate must either currently be working towards an advanced degree in Animal Science or be within 1-year of finishing a degree and in a post doctoral fellowship at the time the application is due. There are no restrictions on country of residence. Candidates must be current members of ASAS.

Each nomination must contain the following:

A biography of the nominee not to exceed 2760 characters.
A summary of scholarly work noting the impact and originality of the work. This summary will not exceed 5000 characters and spaces.
A current CV. Letters of support from 2 members of ASAS. A citation for printing (not to exceed 1,500 characters and spaces) and a citation for reading at the introduction of the presentation (not to exceed 700 characters and spaces).

Award Selection Committee: The ASAS Foundation Chair, a representative of Agri-King, the ASAS President, the ASAS President-Elect, and one of the Current ASAS Graduate Student Directors. The ASAS Foundation Chair will chair the committee.

Wilson G. Pond Appreciation Club International Travel Award

Nature of Award: Certificate and $2500.00 towards expenses for travel to an international meeting or training in an international venue.

Purpose: To aid in the professional development and success of young animal scientists in an international venue. Time Line: Applications will be received between January 1 and February 15 of each year to cover international travel between March 1 and February 28 of a given year.
Eligibility for Nomination: ASAS Membership for at least 12 months.Early career member defined as a member that is a student, a post doctoral fellow or within 10 years of their PhD graduation date. If request is for attendance to a meeting, preference will be given to individuals giving a presentation.

Nomination dossier must contain the following: A description of the meeting or training opportunity (not to exceed 2670 characters and spaces). A justification of the importance of the opportunity (not to exceed 2250 characters and spaces). A budget and listing of matching funds if expenses exceed $2500.00. Confirmation of applicants membership (ASAS Member ID Number) A copy of the applicants CV. Three letters of support from any ASAS members.

Citation for printing (not to exceed 1500 characters and spaces).

Zimbelman-Hafs Public Policy Internship

The internship is sponsored by the Appreciation Clubs for Bob Zimbelman and Harold Hafs. Interns typically spend 2 months in Washington, D.C. working in the area of agriculture public policy. Joseph P. Fontenot Student Travel Scholarship

Nature of Award: A specified monetary award and a certificate. Purpose: The Fontenot Appreciation Club will support travel for graduate students of the Southern Section ASAS Scientific Meeting and the National Annual ASAS Scientific Meeting.

Eligibility: Applicant must be a current Graduate Student Member of ASAS. Applicants must submit an abstract for oral presentation at the Southern Section ASAS Scientific Meeting or ASAS annual meeting. Abstracts found unacceptable as described in the ASAS "Quality Standards for Abstracts" will not be considered. Applicant must provide one letter of recommendation from his/her thesis advisor or department head. Applications that have been submitted for other ASAS student travel scholarships for the same meeting will not be eligible for the Fontenot Graduate Student Travel Scholarship. All entries must be submitted by published abstract deadlines.

Application Procedure: Application to be submitted electronically on the web site and must also submit the abstract for consideration as an oral presentation at the meetings by submitting the abstract via the ASAS web site (www.asas.org) by the published abstract deadline, as appropriate, for either the Southern Section ASAS Scientific Meeting or the National Annual ASAS Scientific Meeting. The abstract will be judged on the following content: Importance, originality, clarity;65% Letter for Support;35%

Evaluation Committee Southern Section Meeting: The evaluation committee will be a panel of three Southern Section Past Presidents. A nonvoting chairperson will chair the committee.

Annual ASAS Meeting: The evaluation committee will be a panel of the immediate past presidents of geographical sections of the American Society of Animal Science. A nonvoting chairperson will chair the committee

H. Allen Tucker Graduate Student Travel Scholarship

Nature of Award: A specified monetary award and a certificate. Purpose: The Tucker Appreciation Club will support travel for graduate students to the annual international ASAS/ADSA scientific meeting and the triennial Biology of Lactation Workshop, held in conjunction with the ADSA/ASAS Joint meeting. Eligibility: Applicant must be a current Graduate Student Member of ASAS or ADSA. Applicants must submit an abstract to the ASAS ADSA annual meeting. Abstracts must be related to research in physiology, endocrinology, growth, or developmental biology. Abstracts found unacceptable as described in the ASAS ADSA "Quality Standards for Abstracts" will not be considered. Abstracts must be presented as an oral presentation at the ASAS ADSA annual meeting Each applicant must provide one letter of recommendation from his/her thesis advisor. Previous winners are not eligible All entries must be submitted by published abstract deadline.
