YouTuber shares science with the public

YouTube isn’t just for silly cat videos — at least one self-labeled science “nerd” is using the site to get the public excited about research.

Video creator Hank Green made a name for himself on YouTube by singing songs about Harry Potter and chatting with his brother, John. Green, who has a background in biochemistry and environmental studies, is now creating regular videos about science for his popular YouTube channel “SciShow.”

Green explains complicated, something controversial, scientific subjects using graphics, animations and interviews with scientists. Many of Green’s videos touch on topics in animal science. Check out his videos on “Vestigial structures,” “Glowing rats,” “The Periodic Table,” and even “Epigenetics.”
