The annual meeting of the Southern Section, American Society of Animal Science will be held in Orlando, FL on February 2-5, 2013, in conjunction with the 110th Annual Meeting of the Southern Association of Agricultural Scientists. Call for Papers: Members are encouraged to submit abstracts of papers for oral presentation. Abstracts must be submitted electronically on or before 11:59 p.m. CDT October 23, 2012. Abstracts not meeting this deadline will be rejected. Other criteria for acceptance or rejection will include those outlined in the “Instructions for Abstract Submission”, which may be found on the SSASAS Web site: http://asas.org/asas-sections/southern-section/meetings Presenters will be expected to submit PowerPoint shows for their oral presentations to the respective committee chair in advance of the meeting (more details will be provided by the respective chair). Committee chairs will be expected to provide a computer with all shows pre-loaded and a video projector for their session. Any other video presentation equipment must be provided by the presenter.
Graduate Student Competition: Abstracts will be submitted as described above, and dependent upon number of submissions, the Awards Competition Committee will sort the abstracts into Ph.D. and M.S. degree candidate sections based on scientific merit for presentation. Contestant must be the senior author and cannot hold academic rank above assistant professor. Rules and guidelines on the awards competition will be sent to each selected participant and their eligibility verified with the appropriate department chair/head. Persons who have placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in previous Awards competitions are ineligible. Awards of $200, $150, and $100 will be presented to the top three placings, respectively.
Undergraduate Research Abstract Competition: Students classified as either a Junior or Senior at the time of submission and from institutions in the Southern Region with degree programs in Agriculture are encouraged to present data from their research efforts. Abstracts should be submitted as described above. University verification that the student is enrolled at the time of the abstract submission will be requested from the student’s department head/chair. Note that the author may be enrolled as a graduate student at the time the paper is presented. The abstracts will be reviewed by the Teaching and Undergraduate Education Committee. Awards of $200, $150, and $100 will be presented to the top three places, respectively.
Teaching and Undergraduate Education Abstracts: In addition to abstracts submitted for the Undergraduate Student Presentation Competition, the committee calls for abstracts that support and advance the scholarship of teaching and learning. Contact the committee chair with questions about abstract appropriateness.

Group rates for the “Southern Association of Agricultural Scientists” are $149 for Single and Double, $169 for Triple and Quad. The deadline for room reservations at these rates is 5:00 PM EST, Friday January 11, 2013.
