Photo submitter Steve Washburn writes, “Pasture-based dairying with management-intensive grazing is one viable option for some dairy producers. Such herds can be relatively small or can have several hundred cows in one location. Some dairy grazers also manage herds as seasonal calving herds. Although many breeds and crosses are used in pasture systems, the Jersey-Holstein crossbred cows pictured here are typical of many pasture-based systems. Use of pasture is also a basis for dairy producers interested in organic dairy production.”
