Artificial uterus keeps lambs alive

Here’s a story for all the reproductive physiologists out there — and for those of you interested in cool medical news. According to this article in MIT Technology Review, researchers at Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia kept lamb fetuses alive in an artificial womb. The article states that the fetal lambs lived for several weeks in the the fluid-filled sacs and were “born” when researchers removed them from the sacs. The article describes the feat as “a technological leap toward caring for premature infants.”
