2018 Changes to Instructions to Authors for Journal of Animal Science
As we moved to the OUP platform, we spent a significant amount of time reviewing suggestions from members to help improve 1) journal and article visibility, 2) enhance ease of submission and 3) modernize the look of the journal pages. As a result we have 4 simple but significant changes:
- We will now list the full first name of each author versus the first initial. This dramatically increases the ease of searching and associated visibility of modern search engines.
- We have removed all common abbreviations and will now use author defined abbreviations or no abbreviations at all. This is designed to help attract top scientists from all fields that may be doing work relevant to animal science, but that may not be familiar with the abbreviations used in animal science.
- We have removed the length restriction on the introduction. In the age of physical print, it was important to limit the introduction, but today with a electronic publication this is less important and length and extent of the introduction should be author preference.
- We are accepting articles via LaTex. LaTex is a program used by the geneticists and allows them to more easily submit equation heavy papers.
