Dear ASAS Southern Section Members,
In a year of uncertainty, the one thing that has been consistent lately has been change. Change has pushed us outside of our comfort zone to explore new ways of conducting everyday experiences. As you are already aware, there has been a change for our ASAS Southern Section Meeting. Late last fall, the Southern Section Executive Committee decided to merge our annual Southern Section meeting for 2021 with the National ASAS CSAS SSASAS Meeting, taking place July 14-18, 2021 in Louisville, KY.
I am looking forward to this event and remain optimistic that we will not be changing our travel plans this time. Even if I cannot shake your hand, I am still looking forward to seeing you and interacting with you face to face. I am excited for the ways that our team is working toward an experience that will allow our Section to be just as engaging and successful in cultivating science as we have been in the past when meeting separately from National.
Our meeting has always encouraged students and professionals to network and to engage in thought provoking dialogue. I have no doubt that we will continue this legacy with the meeting this year. Our extension professionals will continue their tradition of networking over breakfast. There will be a student 3 minute thesis competition. Invited speakers will deliver the annual Kunkel Beef and Randel Physiology Lectures. We will also continue to present our awards and celebrate the accomplishments of each of these deserving individuals in a similar manner to previous years.
I hope that you have all marked July 14-18, 2021 on your calendars and begun making your travel arrangements so that you do not miss this opportunity to show the rest of ASAS membership what a great section we have. Encourage your colleagues, students, and industry partners to join us!
