Welcome to ASAS Foundation Week!
🐾 ASAS Foundation Week 🐾
Dear ASAS Members and Friends,
The 2026 ASAS Foundation Week is officially here, and it is all about one simple message: "We've been where they're going."
Every day this week, we'll share stories of current award recipients alongside former recipients of the same awards - now leading in industry, research, academia, and beyond. Some are professors, others are researchers and industry leaders, and one is even running for State Representative!
These stories are proof that one scholarship, one travel award, one internship, or one opportunity can truly change a life!
This is a week of inspiration and nostalgia. You may even see throwback photos that remind us all of the hairstyles, glasses, mustaches, and fashion choices that, at the time, seemed like really good ideas.
Each day, we'll spotlight:
🐾"We've Been Where They're Going" stories featuring past and present award recipients
🐾Philanthropy in Action - fueling innovation and opening doors through new awards!
🐾Member Stories that inspire and remind us why this community matters!
🐾Opportunities to connect, give back, and celebrate the past and future of animal science!
And the biggest moment of the week?
Thursday, May 21 - One Day for ASAS!
One Day for ASAS - Fuel the Future - because we have been where they are going! This is our annual day of giving and a chance for the entire ASAS community to come together to inspire, ignite and invest in each other!
Thank you for being part of the ASAS family! Thank you for your generosity! And thank you for helping make sure today's students have the same opportunities that helped shape your own career.
Let's make this an unforgettable ASAS Foundation Week!

IMPACT: Undergraduate and Graduate Students

"Receiving the 2026 ASAS Foundation Legacy Award – Travel Scholarship* is incredibly meaningful to me as a graduate student working in animal breeding and genetics. This support makes it possible for me to attend the ASAS Annual Meeting, share my research, and engage with scientists and industry leaders who are advancing animal sciences. Opportunities like this play an important role in helping early-career researchers grow and contribute to the future of animal science." Luana Alvares | Ph.D. Student, Animal Sciences | Colorado State University | Anticipated Graduation: Fall 2028 *Supported by the ASAS Foundation Legacy Fund
IMPACT: Early Career Animal Scientists
(Left: Hannah Miller, Ph.D.)
"I am sincerely grateful to receive the Outstanding Graduate Student in Swine Nutrition Award*. It is a great honor to have my graduate work recognized. This achievement would not have been possible without the mentorship, guidance, and support I received throughout my graduate career." Hannah Miller, Ph.D. | Monogastric Nutrition and Physiology | Christensen Farms *Supported by ASAS Foundation's Tim S. Stahly and Ernest R. Peo, Jr. Memorial and Tribute Award Fund.
IMPACT: Professional Members

"It was truly an honor to be selected for the 2026 Maxwell Lectureship, and to be asked to share "a trip down memory lane" in honor of Dr. Maxwell. Dr. Maxwell has had a tremendous impact on many professionals throughout his lifetime of teaching and research in swine nutrition and production. It is one of the highlights of my career to have been able to share some of the impactful and unique research that he contributed greatly to during the years that I was blessed to know him." Jon Bergstrom, Ph.D. | Sr. Technical Expert, Swine Nutrition | dsm-firmenich

Because We've Been Where They're Going

(Above, left to right: Dennis Lamm, Ph.D."THEN."1972 graduating from Iowa State Univ. and "NOW")
"My mentor and friend at Iowa State University, Dr. M. Peter Hoffman, encouraged me to join ASAS. That one invitation changed everything. While I’ve worn many hats throughout my career, my roots will always be with ASAS. It is this ‘family’ that gave me my start, believed in my potential, and helped shape the path I’ve taken. Now, as a retired university professor, with five years at Virginia Tech and 32 years at Colorado State University, I had the privilege of teaching and mentoring students, helping them become skilled and thoughtful scientists and leaders.
To me, giving back to ASAS is the most meaningful way to honor the society that has shaped much of my life, while continuing to support our future animal science leaders." Dennis Lamm, Ph.D., ASAS Member since 1972
