 THE 1908 SOCIETY

Bob and Arlene Zimbelman

Honoring a Legacy of Leadership and Lifelong Dedication
Dr. Robert Zimbelman’s pioneering impact on ASAS and FASS is felt across every corner of our profession - from his groundbreaking research and service on the ASAS Board, to his role as the first ASAS Executive Vice President for Scientific Liaison. His visionary leadership helped shape the Executive VP office and the Congressional Science Fellow program into nationally respected sources of science-based support for animal agriculture. Through decades of collaboration with leaders in academia, government, industry, and the media, Bob elevated the visibility and credibility of animal science nationwide.

Although Bob passed on January 21, 2025, the impact of his life continues in the lives he touched, the field he helped shape, and the legacy he and Arlene built together.

In recognition of Bob’s enduring influence, the ASAS Foundation established the Robert G. Zimbelman Appreciation Club, celebrating his profound contributions to ASAS, our partner societies, and the animal sciences. Bob and Arlene’s unwavering commitment to our mission is also reflected in their decision to become ASAS Foundation 1908 Society Members, helping ensure that future generations of animal scientists have the same opportunities to lead, innovate, and inspire.

We invite you to establish your legacy with ASAS and become a 1908 Society Member, where your support becomes part of a lasting investment in the future of animal science.

From an ASAS Member - "Why I Give"

"ASAS has been a presence in my family's life for three generations, from my father-in-law to me, and now my daughter. With each passing generation, my family’s roots in ASAS have grown deeper, and impressively, each of us has ties to the world-renowned Dr. Preston!
ASAS has been more than just an organization to us. It has been a second family, a source of support, and a catalyst for our growth and success. I am grateful for the doors it has opened for my family and for the countless opportunities it continues to provide.

As animal scientists, we are unique in the fact that we are all part of a professional family tree, where knowledge and expertise are passed down from one generation to the next.

Please join me in showing our gratitude for ASAS’ influence and impact on our lives by making a charitable contribution to the ASAS Foundation. Together, our generosity ensures that aspiring professionals in our field continue to learn from industry leaders and stay at the forefront of advancements in animal science."

Deana Hancock, Ph.D. | Director | Global Applied Research and Technology | Novus
