Ferdinando Almeida is a native of Brazil. He obtained his BS in Agronomy at the Federal University of Uberlandia, Brazil. As an undergraduate student, Almeida was involved with dairy cattle production through internships in Brazil and in the U.S. In 2007, he started working at the Swine Research Center at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. After 1 year, his growing interest in swine nutrition motivated him to pursue a MS degree in swine nutrition from the University of Illinois under the guidance of Dr. Hans Stein. For his MS, his research focused on aspects of phosphorus digestibility in soybean meal, corn and corn co-products. After completing his MS in 2010, Almeida became a PhD student under Dr. Hans Stein. For his PhD, his research focuses on the evaluation of the nutritional value of feed ingredients exposed to various degrees of heat damage.</p>
