Dr. Lance H. Baumgard is a native of southwest Minnesota who grew up on a swine and row-crop farm. He has BS and MS degrees from the University of Minnesota and a PhD from Cornell University. He joined the University of Arizona faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Fall of 2001 and was promoted to Associate Professor in Spring of 2007. Dr. Baumgard joined Iowa State University in 2009 and is the Norman Jacobson Professor in the Department of Animal Science. Since 2005, Dr. Baumgard’s primary research emphasis has been on the physiological and endocrine consequences of heat stress and immune activation in both ruminant and monogastric farm animals. Dr. Baumgard has been the PI or co-PI on over $11.8 million in research funding. Dr. Baumgard has trained 33 graduate students, and his group has published 185 peer-reviewed reviews or research manuscripts, 290 abstracts, and 115 conference proceedings for regional meetings.
