Dr. Dan Loy is an Iowa State University Professor of Animal Science, Extension Beef Specialist, and Director of the Iowa Beef Center. Loy has led the extension education program for beef feeders in Iowa for over 30 years, and thousands of beef producers have benefited from his advice and research-based information. He developed and implemented the ISU Feedlot Monitoring Program, introducing cattle feeders to microcomputer use for daily decision-making and enabling performance benchmarking and improved efficiency. He co-developed the BRANDS nutrition programs to better apply complex nutritional models toward practical diet formulation. He led a multi-faceted applied research and producer education program to increase the acceptance of ethanol industry co-products as major sources of nutrients in beef production systems. He is currently leading the Extension effort of a 5-year, $5 Million USDA integrated multi-state project on the genetic improvement of feed efficiency in beef cattle. His commitment to extension and applied research has helped beef producers learn to leverage technology to improve the efficiency of beef production in the United States</p>
