Ways To Give

Ways to Give

  1. Choose your impact – visit ASAS Foundation Funds to select your meaningful impact.
  2. Choose your way to give – review the list below and identify the way to give that works best for you.
    • OnlineASAS Foundation Funds - Donate
    • Check by mail: Make checks payable to: American Society of Animal Science.
      • Mail to: PO Box 7410, Champaign, IL  61826
    • Appreciated Securities (Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds)
      • Securities and mutual funds that have increased in value and have been held for more than one year are among the most popular assets to use when making a gift to ASAS. Making a gift of securities or mutual funds to us offers you the chance to support ASAS’s work while realizing significant benefits for yourself.
      • When you donate appreciated securities to ASAS, you receive the same income tax savings that you would if you wrote us a check, but with the added benefit of eliminating long-term capital gains taxes on the transfer, which in 2022 can be as high as 20 percent. Making a gift of securities to support our mission is as easy as instructing your broker to transfer the shares, or if you have the physical securities, hand-delivering or mailing the certificates along with a stock power to us in separate envelopes. (Using separate envelopes safeguards your gift—the certificates will not be negotiable without the stock power.)
      • Most securities can be transferred electronically to our account by your broker. Please use the Gifts of Securities form here for this gift option.
      • Although it is not possible to make a lifetime charitable gift of a U.S. Savings Bond without first paying the tax on the interest earned, it does make an excellent asset to bequeath to the ASAS Foundation. Check with your financial advisors about the best way to bequeath your savings bonds, as it may be a tax benefit.
    • Donor-Advised Fund Grant
      • A grant from your donor-advised fund (DAF) is a simple, flexible, and tax-efficient way to support the mission of the ASAS Foundation.
    • IRA Charitable Rollover - Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)
      • Donors aged 70.5 or older can avoid paying income tax on their QCDs by making a simple one-step distribution of up to $100,000 from their IRAs to ASAS.  For those aged 73 or older (as of 2023), such non-taxable qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) count toward the yearly required minimum distribution (RMD).
      • QCDs do not qualify for a charitable deduction, but they satisfy the minimum distribution requirement without increasing AGI, resulting in a variety of potential tax savings.
      • Contact your IRA plan administrator to make a gift from your IRA to ASAS. You can provide the following here to your IRA administrator to expedite your donation. The gift must be made directly to ASAS from your IRA by December 31 to be counted as an IRA distribution in the given year.
    • Life Insurance
      • You may add ASAS as a beneficiary to your life insurance policy. Ask your insurance company for a form that will allow you to update the beneficiary.
      • Alternatively, you may transfer ownership of a paid-up life insurance policy to ASAS. After the transfer, ASAS can elect to either cash in the policy right away or keep the policy and receive the death benefit later. You would receive an immediate income tax deduction for the lesser of the cash surrender value or the basis (usually the cost).
    • Planned Giving – Leave your Legacy
      • ASAS becomes part of the fabric of our professional lives. For many of us, it began with involvement as students and continued into our professional careers. Giving to the Foundation is one way to give back, honor those who have made an impact, and provide resources for even better programming going forward. Greg Lardy, PhD
      • By including ASAS Foundation in your legacy gift planning, you can achieve the goals important to you and your family while sustaining the mission and future of ASAS that you value and believe in.
      • Please complete and submit this Future Gift form to share your legacy intentions with ASAS.
    • Vehicle or Home Donation
      • Donating your vehicle, tractor, motorized equipment, or home to ASAS is a great way to support our mission. ASAS works with Charitable Adult Rides & Services (CARS) to process these donations. Please visit their website, careasy.org/asas, or call 866-500-7433 to learn more or to complete your donation details.
    • Workplace Giving / Corporate Matching Gifts
      • Some employers facilitate giving through United Way workplace campaigns.  United Way is a non-profit organization that works with companies, governments, nonprofits, and other organizations to address complete challenges on a worldwide scale. United Way workplace campaigns allow donors to give to a specific, designated charity of their choice. By gifting through your United Way workplace campaign, you participate in your school, company, or organization’s campaign and can designate your gift to ASAS.
      • Check with your employer for other workplace giving campaigns or programs providing the opportunity to support ASAS.
      • Learn if your company has a matching gift program. If so, they may help increase the impact of your support to ASAS.
